Books and Catalogs about Asbestos Use in Flooring Products
Asbestos flooring was a popular product for use in high traffic areas such as hospitals, stores and schools because it was durable and long lasting. However, exposure to asbestos fibers during cleaning, resurfacing, or removal is a real danger because asbestos can cause mesothelioma and other cancers.
Asbestos was used in vinyl and asphalt floor tiles during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. We have flooring catalogs from Armstrong Cork Company, Kentile Floors, Johns-Manville, Ruberoid, Mastic Tile Corporation of America, and Uvalde Rock Asphalt Company. These catalogs often describe the asbestos content, show the patterns that they sold, and sometimes even suggest uses or show installation photos.
