Catalog on Industrial Insulations
71 pages.

This is a comprehensive catalog / manual on Owens-Corning Fiberglass insulation products.  It describes their Kaylo insulation as containing asbestos and it also has other references to the use of asbestos.  Here are the details:

Kaylo Pipe Insulation:  "For mechanical effects, a small amount of asbestos fiber is included at the time of manufacture." Kaylo pipe insulation is described as high temperature insulation for indoor or outdoor piping up to 1200 F operating temperature.  Specifications are listed as HH-I-523a and MIL-I-2781C Insulation Pipe Covering, Thermal, Grade I Class B, Grade II Class D, Grade III Class E. (I believe these are military specs.) There are pictures of it being installed, and charts listing recommended thicknesses, as well as additional information.

Kaylo and Kaylo 20 Block Insulation are both described as containing asbestos.  "Kaylo and Kaylo 20 Block Insulations are rigid hydrous calcium silicate heat insulations reinforced with asbestos fibers."  It also says that Kaylo 20 is slightly pink in color.  Their use was for high temperature insulation of heated equipment up to 1800 F.   About its use: "Kaylo 20 high temperature limit extends its use to include refractory wall backing for furnaces and boilers and fireproofing of equipment and vessel skirts."  Specification listed is HH-I-523a and MIL-I-2819 Thermal Block Class A and B.

Fiberglass Blanket Type Pipe Insulation description says, "This strong wire mesh, secured to the insulation by asbestos or metal yarn ties, is fabricated to the right length to fit the specified pipe size."  Its use is for large high pressure steam lines up to 1000 F operating temp.  There are pictures of it being installed, recommended thicknesses chart, specifications info, and more.

The section on finishing of Fiberglas Rigid Duct Insulation describes the use of the asbestos paper and asbestos cement.

One of the pages on Fiberglass Flexible Vapor-Seal Insulation has information on the finish for exposed ducts - cold air which says, "Wrap insulation with resin sized paper or asbestos paper..."

Section on cold storage insulations has instructions on the use of cement asbestos board when using Fiberglas PF Cold Storage Insulation.

The back cover has a list of where to buy Fiberglas Industrial Insulations which lists their branch offices.

October, 1960.

Condition:
Acceptable, mainly because the front and back covers are about halfway separated and there is some edge tearing and wear.  There are a couple of small tears to the top edges of the pages. Otherwise, pages are in mostly good condition.
